New teachers reinforce São Lourenço teaching commitment

Five new teachers from across the world, with experience of international schooling, have been appointed to start work at the International School São Lourenço (ISSL), in Almancil from September.

Among the new appointments is A-level biology teacher Wendy Carson, who is joining ISSL from the Sultan School in Oman and has worked on developing the Opening Minds curriculum which will be implemented as of September at São Lourenço.

After working in southern Spain, Joanne Mathews will be teaching business studies and information technology to A-level at ISSL. She is also qualified to train teachers in the interactive whiteboard technology, which is having a positive impact on pupils’ learning.

After owning her own nursery in Scotland, Lynn Brands will be taking charge of ISSL’s Pre-School.

Joanne Fletcher is moving with her family to the Algarve to teach in Key Stage 2 where she will bring up-to-date teaching at this level.

Sue McGuire will be joining the school to work in Learning Support and Special Educational Needs.

“A good Learning Support department will enable children with learning difficulties to catch up and those who are gifted and talented can be nurtured and stretched,” the school believes that the quality of its learning support will be a major asset for students’ success.

On Wednesday, July 1 the school is holding an informative openhouse at 10 am.
