New sports centre

LAGOA CÂMARA is building a new sports centre in Parchal at an estimated cost of four million euros.

The facility will have a football pitch, running track with eight lanes, dressing rooms for athletes, technical teams and referees, and massage and physiotherapy areas. Also included in the plan are a press centre, an anti-doping area and a medical centre.

The complex, Campo Municipal da Bela Vista, will have 1,700 seats and parking for 95 vehicles, including eight places for handicapped people, 16 for athletes and six for buses.

The project adheres to the regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Instituto do Desporto de Portugal (IDP), the national board for sports.

Lagoa Câmara expects to promote the new sports complex for training programmes of big national and international teams or athletes. The new stadium is expected to be ready by 2009 and will work as an alternative to the existing Estombar stadium, which is already struggling for space for many of its activities.
