The film is entirely in English and tells the story of a gay couple’s “troubled relationship”
Filming has wrapped on a new short-film ‘Beyond the Rainbow’, which was shot in the Algarve town of Lagoa and tells the story of a gay couple’s “troubled relationship”.
The film is entirely in English despite being a Portuguese production led by Ber/Liner Production House, a newly created production company based in the Algarve whose “sole objective is to develop content linked to the entertainment industry”.
‘Beyond the Rainbow’ focuses on the story of Gabriel Hughes (played by Portimão-born Marcus André), a young British man who settles in Lagoa which he sees as the “perfect refuge to start a new life”.
“However, when Richard White (Francisco Fonseca), the son of an American couple living in the region, meets the young British man, an unexpected love relationship blossoms,” the film’s synopsis says.
“Over 10 years, between laughter, tears and long days in the sun, we end up getting to know all the contours of this troubled relationship. On this roller coaster that is life and love, the most difficult thing is to define the limits between “being” and “wanting”. Even if it’s for love and always with love.
“Time is passing, there is a rift that has opened and the only person able to see this relationship clearly is Catarina (Madalena Brandão), the manager of a restaurant. The struggle to reach the surface has just begun. Tick-tock-tick-tock,” it adds.
The short-film is directed by Brazilian director Letícia Veiga, known for her work on shows aired by Brazil’s TV Globo and Portugal’s TVI. She most recently directed miniseries ‘Olhar Indiscreto’ (Lady Voyer) for Netflix Brazil.
Jakob Hempel is the film’s Director of Photography, after a recent experience as Assistant Video Operator for hit action film ‘John Wick 4’.
‘Beyond the Rainbow’ is currently in post-production and a trailer is due to be launched soon.
The film’s premiere has not yet been announced, although the production team – which also features Cinemate, MovieBox Studios, Planar Filmes and NuBoyanahas – has said that it will be held in Lagoa.
