Aqua Portimão, a new shopping centre at Cardosas, near Portimão, is on track to open before Easter 2011 as planned.
A spokesman from the Bouygues Real Estate, the company behind the project, told the Algarve Resident: “It will be the largest centre in western Algarve, with 132 shops, including Primark and H&M, more than 20 restaurants and a Jumbo supermarket.”
Primark is one of the UK’s top clothing chains and this will be its first store in the Algarve, covering 4,200 square metres and creating 250 jobs.
H&M, a Swedish clothing company, is best known for its fast fashion offerings and will have a 1,980 square metre store at Aqua Portimão.
The centre has been designed by the Lisbon-based Sua Kay Architects Company and total construction costs are put at 106 million Euros.
It will have three floors above ground and an underground car park with spaces for 1,800 cars.
The spokesman said that the next phase is to complete works to enlarge and improve Avenida Coronel Maçanita, which is the main access to Aqua Portimão, landscaping the exterior garden and car parking area.
“Recruitment of staff by Ségécé Portugal, the company which manages and sells commercial properties, in partnership with the Portugal’s Employment and Professional Training Institute (IEFP), will begin soon,” he said.
The project, which is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs, won the Europe & Africa Properties International Awards 2010 in the category of Best Retail Development.
It will now compete with winners from other projects in Asia-Pacific, UK-America and Middle East, for the International Property Awards 2010.
Results will be announced on November 27 during a gala event in London.
