New shopping centre described as the best so far in Portugal

MULTI DEVELOPMENT’S latest shopping centre, Forum Coimbra, is the “best project so far in Portugal”, according to the company’s managing director, Benno Van Vegel. Forum Coimbra, situated in Santa Clara, is due to open on April 27.

Covering an area totalling 42,000sqm, the company’s latest 130 million euro project is expected to follow on from the success of similar centres such as the one at Almada Forum, south of Lisbon. The new shopping centre will be integrated in a portfolio of similar projects including Forum Aveiro, Forum Viseu and Parque Mondego.

The new four-floor shopping centre, which is already 99 per cent occupied by key retailers, such as French multimedia outlet Fnac, hypermarket giant Carrefour, and Hennes & Mauritz, will provide direct jobs for 1,500 people and indirect work for a further 3,000. It will guarantee parking for 2,550 vehicles, have six cinema screens with a capacity for 1,500 people, and a restaurant area with stunning views over the River Mondego and Coimbra city.

It is expected that Forum Coimbra will cater for nine million shopping visits in its first year, generating 85 million euros.
