New road links Pereiras roundabout to EM522 road
A new road between the Pereiras roundabout and the EM522 road in Escanxinas was inaugurated in Loulé on Wednesday.
“Those who travel from Via do Infante (A22 motorway) to the tourist developments of Almancil or the east of Quarteira will now see their lives made easier,” Loulé Council says in a statement.
“This is yet another option that will be at the disposal of residents and tourists who visit us,” said Loulé Mayor, Vítor Aleixo, stressing that the road is located in an area which serves as an entrance for the tourist hotspots of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Ancão and Garrão.
Aleixo also said the new road will be “fundamental to relieve the high levels of traffic on Avenida do Atlântico, especially during the summer.
“Drivers travelling to the east area of Quarteira can use this new road, and from that point of view, we expect for some traffic congestion to be eased on the EN396,” said the mayor.
Aleixo also stressed that the road boasts quite impressive views.
“It is a road with a very nice panoramic view, which is set in an area that people did not know until now,” he added.
The new 1.7km road, which cost over €1.6 million, features side pavements and two roundabouts.
Works also included connecting the road to the wastewater and telecoms networks and setting up public lighting.
