New riverside road opens on Saturday in Portimão

New road built to improve traffic flow

Major changes to road traffic along Portimão’s riverside area will be made on Saturday (July 1) with the opening of a new road linking Largo do Dique and Rua Júdice Biker.

One of the main changes for those entering the town via the so-called “old bridge” (and turning left down Rua Serpa Pinto instead of continuing ahead down Rua Infante D. Henrique) will be the possibility of continuing straight ahead, passing by the Caixa Geral de Depósitos building towards the Sapal roundabout located in front of the town hall.

Drivers will also be able to continue turning right to drive parallel to Jardim 1º de Dezembro, pass in front of the municipal TEMPO theatre and continue along Rua Direita.

As for drivers wishing to leave the city, they will have to enter Largo do Dique through Avenida Guanaré, next to the Capitania (Captaincy), and use the new road which will take them to Largo 1º Dezembro, where they will have two options: either turn right towards the “old bridge” or turn left towards the Sapal roundabout.

The renovation works in the area are due to be completed in the coming weeks.

The new road was built with the goal of improving traffic flow in the area following the launch of a public tender which was awarded for around €500,000. The works started in February with a deadline of six months for completion.
