PJ police have announced a new raid on boat-builders constructing so-called ‘narco-launches’: high speed boats equipped for smuggling drugs into Europe. The raid follows one in April, again coordinated with investigators in Spain. This time, boat yards targeted were in the Alto Minho, ‘margem sul’ (coast below Lisbon) and Algarve – and a Portuguese man, aged 39, has been arrested. At the same time, 72 further arrests have taken place in Spain. According to reports, this latest crackdown has resulted in the seizure of around 40 boats, in various stages of construction.
