New project designed to speed-up colorectal cancer testing

Starting from the beginning of 2016, patients whose symptoms suggest they could be suffering from colorectal cancer will have a way of fast-tracking tests (colonoscopies) thanks to a project launched by Évora’s Hospital Espírito Santo and the Central Alentejo group of health centres. The project aims to offer colonoscopies within 30 days and surgeries, if necessary, within two weeks. Health centre director Teresa Caldas Almeida explained, early diagnosis is key.
