DANIEL QUEIRÓS has been named as the new president of the Associação de Turismo do Algarve (ATA), Algarve Tourism Association.
Following a unanimous vote by association members on December 20, he assumed his new position on Tuesday this week and will continue in this post until 2009.
He was previously one of the eight vice presidents of the Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA), the Regional Tourism Board for the Algarve, and worked under Hélder Martins, the current RTA president.
The ATA was established in 2003 by the RTA to act solely as a promotional agency for the Algarve. As the ATA is a subsidiary of the RTA, Queirós will report directly to Martins and is responsible for promoting the Algarve as a quality holiday destination on a national and international scale.
Queirós is responsible for ensuring the services in the Algarve are optimised and for the general management of the association, Martins is responsible for initiating projects to monitor the development and growth of tourism in the Algarve. His role also includes the distribution of funds for marketing and information campaigns.
The RTA is essentially the umbrella for tourism promotion and development in the Algarve and controls tourism policy and finance.
