Plans for Portimão’s new cemetery are currently being examined at the region’s technical department offices in Faro. After the project has been analysed and approved, the adjudication process will begin and building is scheduled to start within two years. The new site will be around 10 hectares. A spokesperson said the cemetery, “will have areas for graves, catacombs and traditional tombs”. There will be a central building with a chapel, various embalming and storage rooms and a shop selling flowers and religious artefacts. The local authority is keen for the new cemetery to be built as the current graveyard is almost full.
