Restaurant Vista in Praia da Rocha has appointed renowned pastry chef Carlos Fernandes in a bid to bring the quality of its baking up to the Michelin-star level the restaurant is known for.
“I am delighted to be joining the Vista team and to be working directly with chef João Oliveira. It will be truly enriching on both a personal and professional level,” he said.
The pastry chef described Vista’s kitchen as a “laboratory where national flavours and aromas are the stars, which is why I feel so motivated to play an active role here”.
Carlos Fernandes knows sweets and pastry are an important part of Portuguese cuisine and thus he feels “Vista deserves to offer a unique experience in this gastronomic field”.
His journey in the gastronomic world started in 2007 at the Le Meridien Park Atlantic Lisboa (now Intercontinental Lisboa) after completing his studies at the Lisbon Hotel and Tourism School.
Two years later, he worked as an intern at Alejandro Del Toro restaurant in Valencia, Spain, which at the time boasted a Michelin star. Also in 2009 he joined the team at Lapa Palace Hotel in Lisbon.
In 2011, he returned to Spain to work under the wing of Martín Berasategui, a three Michelin-star chef, and as an intern at the Pastelarías Torreblanca, owned by one of the best pastry chefs in Spain, Paco Torreblanca.
A year later he moved to Tenerife where he worked for several years at the M.B. restaurant before returning to Portugal in 2015 to join the team at Restaurante Loco in Lisbon.
