A CHILDREN’S home in Portimão has received a brand new mini bus from New York’s Rockefeller Association, through the Fundação JB Fernandes.
The new bus has nine seats and will improve the capacity of the Lar Bom Samaritano home, to provide transport for the 36 children currently under its care.According to Rui Dias, president of the charitable institution, the bus will be used to take the children to school and to the various activities in which they participate. It is a significant safety improvement because, until recently, the youngsters were being transported in a very old bus without seat belts.
A donation of around 35,000 euros was promised in an agreement made three years ago, confirms director Marisa Bossa, also a psychologist at the institution. And, following the exchange of various letters, in December last year the Rockefeller Association responded with good news for the Lar Bom Samaritano – the donation of a subsidy for urgent items which included a mini bus. The amount offered has been used to buy the bus and will also be used to install a swimming pool at the home.
