A PRELIMINARY design of a new metro system has been revealed by Faro Câmara President, José Apolinário.
The plans for the system will see the Algarve Stadium connected by the rail link to the rest of Faro, improving access and hopefully encouraging more events to take place at the stadium thanks to increased links with the city.
A feasibility study into the metro is due to take place early next year and, according to José Apolinário, the project is viable and possible to achieve within 10 years.
Several locations have been marked as possible sites for stations, including the university, the airport and numerous others in the city centre. Plans also hope to include the linking of Faro with the neighbouring cities of Olhão in the east and Loulé in the west.
