STARWOOD HOTELS & Resorts has appointed James Munro as the new General Manager for the Sheraton Algarve at Pine Cliffs Resort, near Albufeira.
In addition, he will oversee the operations of Le Méridien Dona Filipa & San Lorenzo Golf Course and Le Méridien Penina Golf & Resort in his role as Area Manager for the Algarve.
“I am very excited with this new challenge and my move to Portugal. I am looking forward to learning the culture and start picking up the Portuguese language again after having lived in Lisbon for a short time many years ago,” said James Munro. “It is a pleasure to be working for these unique properties with renowned golf courses.”
James Munro has taken over from Flavio Bucciarelli, who has been appointed Area Manager for Northern France and General Manager of Le Méridien Etoile, Paris.
Munro has worked with ITT Sheraton and now Starwood Hotels & Resorts for more than 30 years.
Experience
James Munro arrives in the Algarve after 12 years in the United Arab Emirates, eight in Dubai and almost four in Abu Dhabi, where his previous position was as General Manager of the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort and Area Manager UAE, supervising the operations of 12 Starwood properties and eight properties under construction, along with supporting the company’s development and new build strategies, where all of Starwood’s nine hotel brands are present or will be present in the near future.
Prior to the UAE, James Munro has worked for Sheraton Hotels in Istanbul, Copenhagen, Sofia and London.
Originally from Scotland, James Munro is married with two children. His family have also moved to the Algarve. He is a keen golfer and is currently enjoying learning the Portuguese language and culture.
