A new low cost airline may be in the wings for Portugal. Everjets Aviation Executive – the company that currently operates Portugal’s firefighting Kamov helicopters – is said to be considering an upgrade and recruiting for a new operation to be run out of Lisbon, Porto and Funchal. Sources within the industry have told OJE (economic online paper) that the company already has contracts with tour operators to run airbus-size planes.
OJE’s report suggests the first flights will run out of Madeira, though for the time being Everjets has failed either to confirm or deny the moves.
Planes said to be contracted to the company for its expansion include A320/ 330 and 340 airbuses as well as B767 and 777 commercial passenger planes.
