OEIRAS Câmara has invested 83,000 euros in refurbishing three of the borough’s recreation grounds. Despite opening just five years ago, Jardim das Tílias, Parque Dom Pedro V and Jardim dos Plátanos were all forced to close due to vandalism of the facilities, such as swings and slides, that made the parks unsafe. “We hope that the public will treat the new facilities with greater respect,” said Teresa Zambujo, Oeiras Câmara President.
António Moreira, President of the Linda-a-Velha Junta de Freguesia, provided more details of the refurbishment: ”Fences were put up while the facilities were refurbished and the replacement equipment installed. Swings and roundabouts that had been repaired in the past were taken away and replaced with brand new ones. In addition, work has been done to restore the condition of the surrounding grass and plants.”
Around 400 pupils from Linda-a-Velha’s primary schools were invited to the grand opening last month to try out the new facilities.
