Portugal’s newly elected Professional Football League (LPFP) president Mário Figueiredo wants to add two extra teams to the domestic Premier League and shift to a collective TV rights bargaining model which will increase clubs’ revenues.
In Portugal, as well as in neighbouring Spain, the bulk of audio/visual monies, estimated at around €75 million, goes to the bigger clubs, with 50% helping to swell the coffers of Benfica, Porto and Sporting.
The ‘big three’ backed a rival candidate to Figueiredo for the LPFP presidency.
