Hospitals and nursing homes will be prohibited from exchanging information on deaths with funeral agencies.
Agencies that do not comply with the new law, which comes into effect on December 15, will be fined up to 25,000 Euros.
Portugal’s Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) will be responsible for overseeing the new ruling.
Funeral agencies will only be allowed to explore and manage cemeteries and chapels, carry out conservation and the cremation of the corpses.
