Loulé Council has approved a plan to build a new kindergarten and primary school in São Sebastião due to the “growing number of students in the municipality”.
Representing a €2.5 million investment, the school will have room for 200 students aged three to 10 spread across eight classrooms – four for the kindergarten and another four for the primary school.
The central courtyard will feature a basketball field and “playground equipment”.
Says the council, this new school (to be named Escola JI+EB1 Hortas de Santo António 2) will help deal with some of the overcrowding issues that are being felt at other local schools.
A tender for the construction works has already been launched.
