Starting this summer, travellers to the Algarve have a new way to explore the region: the illustrated map “Algarve’s Food Landscape”.
The idea comes from Gloria Dall’Orto, Italian by birth but Algarvian by adoption, founder of the tourist entertainment agency Algarve Food Experience, which has been organising culinary activities since 2018, focused on promoting local products of excellence and making traditional activities related to agriculture and fishing better known in a creative and refreshing way.
“With this map of the Algarve’s food landscapes, I wanted to offer a different point of view to those who want to discover the region through the seasons, starting with the activities that have marked the rhythm of those who live and work in the Algarve for decades if not centuries,” said Gloria.
“The aim is to make travellers aware of the enormous richness and variety of local products, and to inspire them to immerse themselves in the food culture through the involvement of farmers, fisherman, distillers, shepherds, bakers and chefs, that will be the narrators of their local areas and unique guides to the local traditions,” she added.
The printed version of the map will be distributed free of charge in more than 200 small hotels, guesthouses and holiday homes that have been carefully selected for their owners’ commitment to disseminating regional traditions and excellence over the years.
