A NEW electronic identification system for vehicles is to be launched by the government next month.
Once implemented, this means that motorists will no longer need the Registo de Propriedade (ownership identification) and Livrete Automóvel (car identification) documents, as the new credit card style ID will serve both purposes. Paulo Campos, the deputy to the Secretary of State for Public Buildings and Communications, has assured that the white paper detailing the budget for the new system will be announced in October and that the new ID will become obligatory from 2007.
