New hotel of national importance

Work on the new Hilton Hotel Bom Sucesso in Óbidos has begun, while the €27 million project has also been recognised by the government as a project of national importance and been granted PIN status.

The future five-star hotel, which has been designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, will have 120 rooms, six conference rooms, a business centre, two swimming pools, a spa, two restaurants and two bars and is scheduled to open in 2012.

Diogo Lima, a spokesman for Eduardo Souto de Moura architects, said: “This is a huge building, over 170 metres long, which looks almost like a cruise liner arriving in Óbidos.”

Luís Patrão, the president of the Portugal Tourism Board, said of the project: “This new venture is an excellent example of how things should be done and I have no doubt that it fully deserves the PIN status it has been awarded.”
