New hospital to be completed by end of 2009

Grupo FDO, the company responsible for the construction of the Algarve International Hospital, Albufeira, has said that the new medical facility will be operational by the last quarter of this year.

The private hospital, when complete, will cover 5,400 square metres over six floors, including two underground levels dedicated to parking to prevent traffic problems in the area.

Grupo Trofa Saúde has been awarded the management contract for the hospital for the next 10 years with the possibility of renewal for a further 10 years and will be providing advanced technological equipment to hospital users.

The management group is already responsible for the Hospital Particular of Lisbon, Hospital Privado Tejo Sul and several other medial facilities in Portugal.

Several medical areas are planned for the new hospital including an outpatient surgery block, sterilisation unit, examination rooms and a special blood unit.

An accident and emergency service will be available from the hospital. However, there will be no intensive care unit at the medical facility.
