LOW COST Irish airline Aer Lingus launched a new route between Faro and Belfast on February 26, with flights departing three days a week.
This is the third route Aer Lingus has opened from Faro airport, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with an airbus A320, seating 174 passengers.
After the maiden flight from Belfast to Faro, a promotional kit was offered to all passengers on board by the Associação de Turismo do Algarve, the Algarve’s tourism association.
This was followed by a press conference with Faro airport’s director António Correia Mendes and Aer Lingus’ director of sales in Portugal, Aisling Lyons.
“With this service to Belfast, Aer Lingus is reinforcing the development of Faro airport,”said António Mendes, adding: “This will significantly increase the offer of flights between Faro and Belfast which, it is hoped, will have a dynamic effect on the Algarve.”
Aisling Lyons said that Aer Lingus now operates flights to three destinations in Ireland from Faro, to Belfast, Cork and Dublin.
“In total, our flights have increased to 18 every week, which equates to 1,000 seats every day,” she said.
