New era dawns for Quinta do Lago’s iconic South Course

A firm favourite with both professionals and amateurs alike, Quinta do Lago’s South Course has been at the forefront of golf in the Algarve for the best part of 50 years.

An eight-time host of the Portuguese Open, the par-72 layout – one of three championship courses at the luxury golf and lifestyle destination – is regarded as Portugal’s premier golfing venues and among the top 100 courses in Europe.

And the South Course has enhanced its reputation even further last autumn following its eagerly awaited reopening after being given a modern new look over 2020’s spring and summer. The modernisation of the iconic layout forms the centrepiece of a €7 million golf investment programme which has taken place at Europe’s premier golf and lifestyle resort since the beginning of last year, with the improvements putting it on a par with the wealth of other five-star facilities at Quinta do Lago.

As part of the resort upgrade, which also included the reopening of the main clubhouse following an extensive refurbishment, all fairways, bunkers, tees and green surrounds on the South Course have been revamped, while subtle changes have been made to a number of holes to enhance the playing experience.

Sean Moriarty, CEO at Quinta do Lago, said: “The South Course holds a special place in the hearts of so many of our residents and guests. It is truly an iconic golfing venue and the enhancement programme that we’ve devised will help to ensure that it strengthens its position at the forefront of European golf.”
