A new retail park is being built in Alcantarilha near the EN125 road and A22 motorway. Representing a €25 million investment, it is expected to open in the summer of 2022.
Retail Mind Global Retails Services, one of the project’s developers, says that the Sudoeste Retail Park will be “one of the largest of its kind” in Portugal and the “largest in the Algarve”.
A ceremony to lay the first stone at the construction site, near Alcantarilha’s main western roundabout on the EN125 road and near the A22 motorway access roads, was due to take place on Wednesday as the Resident went to press. Representatives from the developers as well as Silves council and other local and regional entities were due to attend the event.
Around 120 jobs are due to be created during the retail park’s construction and around 500 when it opens.
So far, developers have confirmed that the Sudoeste Retail Park will feature a Continente supermarket, a Rádio Popular electronic goods store, decoration stores such as Homa and Espaço Casa and a Burger King restaurant. In total, it is expected to feature 20 stores.
Said Vítor Rocha, general manager at Retail Mind: “It is with great satisfaction that we witness the start of construction of this project, which will certainly establish itself as an attraction in the region.
“We follow the growth of countless retail brands up close, and they trust our work to help them grow even further,” he said, adding that the retail park will feature a diverse mix of “nationally and internationally-recognised” brands.
The design of the retail park is in the hands of architecture and engineering company Work3, while Telhabel Construções is in charge of construction.
