The shared electric Bird bikes come at the height of European Mobility Week
As of this week, Olhão will have a set of electric bicycles for shared use. This sustainable mobility solution comes at the height of European Mobility Week as an addition to the existing scooters used to help decarbonise the city.
The e-bike system is identical to the scooters. Users need only to download and open the Bird App and follow the indicated steps.
For Mobility Councillor Ricardo Calé, “Thanks to its mostly flat terrain, the city of Olhão has excellent conditions to guarantee the success of these new transport solutions”, which he regards as an environmentally friendly alternative to cars.
As with the scooters, the town centre has been divided into three circulation areas.
To simplify the process, parking points have been created throughout the city to make renting, using and returning bicycles easier.
In order for mobility in Olhão to be increasingly “light, ecological, sustainable and fun”, the municipality calls for users to comply with the safety rules. These are using helmets, compliance with traffic rules and the road code, granting priority to pedestrians, parking with civility and circulating on cycle paths whenever possible.
