Just two days after celebrating the best drug bust of 2015, the Algarve’s GNR police have foiled another operation, this time in Vila Real de Santo António.
The operation ended on Wednesday (December 2) with the arrest of a 44-year-old man and the apprehension of nearly 130 cannabis plants, 430 grams of dried cannabis leaves and 535 seeds.
The drugs were discovered in a house in Hortas, in the countryside outside VRSA.
“The confiscated plants were being grown in the house’s garden, while the leaves and seeds were in a drying process,” the GNR revealed in a statement.
This brings the number of cannabis plants seized this year to 971 – 829 of which were confiscated this week which began with Faro GNR apprehending nearly 700 cannabis plants, 11,395 doses of cocaine, 6.4 grams of “ecstasy” and over 8 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms from a rented property near São Bras de Alportel (click here).
The 31-year-old man arrested in the bust remains in police custody.
