A NEW dental clinic, run by Dr. Peter Nielsen and his Portuguese wife Margarida, has recently opened at the entrance to Faro (close to Forum Algarve).
Dr. Nielsen has trained as a dentist at the University of Copenhagen, where he later worked teaching dental students as well as having worked in private practice. He has been involved in research both in Denmark and California, holds a Ph.D. degree in dentistry and is the author of several scientific publications.
The clinic is newly constructed and is a very inviting space. The equipment is the most advanced and includes an intra-oral camera for viewing problematic teeth, quick and low radiation digital x-ray, and an air abrasion system thought to be unique in the Algarve. This last equipment uses a gentle stream of microscopic particles to treat cavities instead of the traditional drill. As this treatment is generally painless, local anesthetic is usually not necessary.
Most types of dental treatments are carried out in the clinic, including advanced periodontal treatment (for gum disease) and dental implants. The treatments are carried out by auxiliary Danish specialists.
