It’s another ‘shock’ affecting PS Socialists seen far too often today doing exactly what they want (in spite of how it looks). This time it concerns the hiring of 21-year-old university graduate Tiago Alberto Ramos Cunha, member of the Socialist Youth (Juventude Socialista), by the office of minister of the presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva for a monthly salary of almost €4,000. The shock is that the young man has been hired on such an adult salary when he is essentially unproven. The PS answer has been that his profile “fits the functions” he will be performing – and that hiring him has had nothing to do with his political affiliations. It has not helped that Mr Cunha’s last name is slang in in Portugal for ‘that little bit of help that comes from the right connections’… As one comment over Facebook says, ‘his name explains it all’.
