New Continente in Portimão

A NEW Continente hypermarket opened on Monday last week in Portimão, located on the EN 124 at the shopping centre in Quinta da Malata. It has taken the place of the Modelo supermarket owned by the same company, Sonae.

Extensive refurbishment and remodeling works were carried out at the Modelo store, which had become quite outdated. The move forms part of the company’s “strategy of renovation, evolution and innovation”. The newly re-branded store is the 19th Continente to open in Portugal.

The total area of the new store measures 4,400 square metres and a total of 244 staff are now employed there. This Continente store boasts a new section entitled, Area Viva, dedicated to organic produce and healthy foods. The store also boasts new services, such as self service tills where clients can pass their goods through the swipe system themselves and then make their payment directly. Also available is an online shopping and delivery service, meaning that customers do not need to leave the comfort of their homes in order to stock up the fridge.

According to the company, the opening of the new store is intended to “respond to the growing demand from consumers for diversity in terms of products and services, and represents an improvement in the quality of life for local people.”

Continente promises that the store will follow its core business strategy, namely “offering low prices, a wide range of high quality products and service aimed at guaranteeing longterm customer satisfaction”.

The aim for the Continente store in Portimão is to enjoy a strong link with the local community and take part in various local initiatives as already developed by the company in the area. With regard to its environmental policy, Continente in Portimão has implemented a series of solutions such as computerised management of energy consumption, extensive use of energy saving bulbs, the implementation of water saving taps and has also set aside designated areas for recycling and waste treatment.

The store is open to the public from Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 11pm and on Sundays and public holidays from 8.30am to 1pm.
