New competitions announced

A record number of participants took part in the latest crown green competition at the Amendoeira Bowls Club on February 8.

“With 34 players taking to the green on Monday, we have reached our maximum bowling capacity. There is a lot of interest in the crown green bowling so we will now be holding another competition on Thursdays throughout the winter months,” said Peter Cain, manager of the Amendoeira Bowls Club.

Winners of the competition on Monday were Tricia Priestley and David Moore, who narrowly beat John and Margaret Greenwood nine to eight, going to the very last end to decide the winner.

Peter Cain also announced that there will be no competition during the week commencing March 8 due to the Iberian Crown Green Cup being played all that week.

This is an open competition and will cost 50 euros to enter with prize money being awarded to winners.

The winner of the Iberian Crown Green Cup tournament will automatically qualify for the Portugal Bowls Masters in October 2010.
