More and more Portuguese emigrés are taking on new nationalities as they forge lives abroad. New data from Eurostat shows that in 2011 9,000 Portuguese became citizens of other countries. The majority lives in France (3,805) and Switzerland (2,211), while a further 1,085 live in Luxembourg. The remainder are scattered throughout Europe. The advantage of taking on new citizenship is that they can keep their Portuguese status at the same time.
