New central library for Lisbon

news: New central library for Lisbon

WORK HAS begun to build a new central municipal library and archive in Lisbon. The new facility will be located in Avenida Mouzinho de Albuquerque on the outskirts of Morro dos Barbadinhos, Vale de Santo António a Xabregas.

This important project has been in the pipeline for more than 20 years and is a facility the council hopes will encourage knowledge and satisfy the needs of the people of Lisbon at a cultural and educational level, as well as providing a leisure facility.

The new centre will consist of 11 floors, including a library, archive, convention centre with two auditoriums, exhibition rooms and a restaurant offering panoramic views. There will also be areas dedicated to leisure, family and new technology.

A ceremony was held last week at the building site to officially launch the beginning of the construction.
