DUE TO overcrowding in the current graveyard in Faro, the city’s Câmara President, José Vitorino, has approved plans for a new cemetery, scheduled to be built in August. According to the politician, the 3,35 million euros project, located 500 metres from the Instituto Politécnico, will have an estimated 3,000 spaces surrounded by gardens. The Bishop of the Algarve, Manuel Madureira Dias, commented on the project’s importance, stating: “There is insufficient space to bury the dead at the moment.”
