New case of measles in north brings total to seven

Portugal’s health authority (DGS) has confirmed the existence of a new case of measles in the northern region in a 29-year-old man who is clinically stable and who was associated with another case identified previously.

Seven cases of measles have been confirmed since January 11, two in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region and five in the North, the health authority said in a statement.

The 29-year-old man is “clinically well and out of the infectious period”, and this is “a secondary case to a previously identified case”.

The DGS added that the cases were laboratory-confirmed by the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).
