New book tells story of Albufeira’s “Lion King”

A book telling the story of a very special street cat, “Mr No Ears, the Lion King of Albufeira,” was released last week.

Written by British author Carol Lee with contributions from the moggy’s “huge fan base” in the Algarve, the book is entitled ‘Saudades Mr No Ears’ and was published following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

“Nicknamed the Lion King of Albufeira, Mr No Ears was no ordinary cat. Losing an eye and both ears at an early age made him different, but that did not stop him,” describes the East Sussex-based author.

“He charmed his way into the hearts of local residents and friends in over 50 countries around the world, who followed his daily antics and adventures online

“Through his life story, the book emphasises the importance of the right to life of free living cats. Also included in the book is a comprehensive appendix on street and feral cat issues.”

Mr No Ears was taken from his colony at Peneco Beach, Albufeira on September 11, 2015 and died in captivity 10 months later.

But as Lee points out: “This is the story of his life – not his death.”

The paperback version of the book costs £7.99 on Amazon and is soon to be released in Portuguese and as a digital e-book on Kindle.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards the Trap-Neuter-Return and medical costs of street cats.
