With focus these days far from the debate about whether or not an overspill airport for Lisbon should be created at Montijo Air Force base, Lisbon mayor Fernando Medina has given the plan another kick in the pants by saying he wants to reduce air traffic coming into Lisbon – meaning any second airport would have to have much greater capacity than that offered by the space (and runway) at Montijo. The mayor’s ambition will be one of his ‘electoral pledges’, says Expresso, suggesting decisions on Montijo will be deferred until at least 2023…
