DUE TO the overwhelming mass of documents accumulated over the years in the city’s current archive building, Loulé Câmara President, Seruca Emídio, has approved plans for a new archive to be built at the Rua Sacadura Cabral, in a building that used to be the town’s primary school. The building’s facade, which dates from the 19th century, will be preserved throughout the renovation. “It has a lot of history and an architectural language that we would like to preserve,” a spokeswoman revealed. Once finished, the three-floored building will have several storage rooms, a staff room, a conference room for up to 50 people, a reading room and an administrative office. “It is going to be a simple building so that good communication will be possible between the various departments,” she said. The project, which will cost an estimated 1,150,000 euros, will take a year to complete.
