New 60km coastal trail moves forward in Aljezur

The project has been in the pipeline for years

Construction of a new 60km trail linking the coastal villages of Odeceixe and Carrapateira in Aljezur is due to begin “very soon”, the local council has announced.

The trail will be part of the Ecovia do Litoral Sudoeste network and will represent a €615,000 investment. Financing has been secured through the CRESC 2020 programme (around €336,000) and the national tourism authority Turismo de Portugal (€202,000), with the local council covering the remainder (around €70,000).

The project has been in the pipeline for years, having been initially drawn up by the Polis Litoral Sudoeste entity. Construction work is due to last 240 days.

“After several setbacks during the project’s creation, this is the start of a project of extreme importance to the municipality and the region,” Aljezur council said in a statement to the press, adding that the new trail will allow people to enjoy “one of the most beautiful areas of our country.”
