Network trafficking “large groups of illegal migrants” foiled by GNR

GNR police have foiled a trafficking network moving large groups of migrant agricultural workers to the Alentejan coast.

A swoop made just before Easter identified a business based in São Teotónio, with offshoots in Lagos, Cascais and Viseu.

According to the GNR’s official webpage, a 51-year-old foreign businessman has been given “arguido” (suspect) status while investigations are still underway to determine whether or not this is a situation of exploitation.
According to ionline, the majority of illegal workers identified come from Bulgaria.

This follows news from other channels about Nepalese nationals recruited working in greenhouses in the area.
