Algarve set for Golden Visa boom

Net Me Up challenge: €2,000 prize up for grabs for best business pitches

A prize of €2,000 plus a six-month business ‘bootcamp’ at Lisbon’s Territórios Criativos, a business support company, awaits the three winners of ‘Net Me UP’, a networking and pitching competition for startup companies which will be held on Wednesday, October 14 at Vilamoura Marina, between 2pm and 7pm.

The event is open to entrepreneurs who want to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges which will feature Roberto Antunes from NEST (Tourism Innovation Centre); João Borga from RNC (National Network of Incubators), Isabel Neves from BA Lisboa; Cristina Salsinha from tourism authority Turismo de Portugal and Pedro de Mello Breyner from Portugal Ventures.

According to the event’s description, the contest is aimed mainly at technological and non-technological projects related to “sustainable mobility and consumption for companies and tourists, seamless experiences for tourists, segmentation and customisation of digital strategies for companies and destinations, optimisation of companies’ business operations in terms of management and marketing, and the appreciation of the strategic assets of Estratégia Turismo 2027”.

Around 35 startups are expected to take part as well as 30 investors, partners and potential clients.

Also planned is a set of “inspiring talks” by guests as well as a speech by Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques.

Confirmed guests so far include Hortênsio Fernandes from Yellow Fish Transfers; Sara Silva from the Algarve Wine Commission; Carolina Travassos from IAPMEI; Hugo Batalha from Trivalor; Francesco Berretini from Algarve STP; Hernâni Sousa, marketing specialist; José Maia from GMT Hospitality; Maria Loureiro de Lemos from Eat.Drink.Discover; Hugo Barros from the University of the Algarve; Aquiles Marreiros from CCDR – Algarve; Ricardo Afonso from Barraqueiro Transportes; André Leitão from Frota Azul; Pedro Valadas Monteiro from DRAP Algarve; Ricardo Oliveira and Carlos Lopez-Cano Vieira from ISMAT; and Ana Marques, from the National Network of Incubators.

Those interested in pitching their business ideas should sign up by 11.59pm on October 5.
