Nearly six tons of food donated at Algarve derby

Football fans donated nearly six tons of food and other products during a charity drive at Portimonense’s latest home match against Algarve rival Olhanense on Sunday (May 14).

Organised by the club and local association Teia d’Impulsos, the ‘À Bola para Ajudar’ initiative has been held since 2012.

It asks fans from both teams to bring at least €2-worth of goods to the stadium in exchange for a ticket to the match.

As the game was also vital for Portimonense’s second division title bid, it attracted nearly 4,500 people who saw the home team clinch a much-needed 3-2 victory.

Donations have already been delivered to the canteens of the Centro Social e Paroquial de Nossa Senhora do Amparo and Cáritas Paroquial da Matriz de Portimão, as well as the Núcleo Hospitalar de Apoio a Crianças e Jovens em Risco at Portimão Hospital and the Santa Misericórdia de Alvor.
