Navy rescue

A French vessel that was damaged near the British Isles about six months ago, and whose crew were evacuated safely, was found on January 15 near Sagres by the Portuguese navy.

Navy authorities at first thought that the vessel had sunk recently in Portuguese waters and attended to search and rescue possible victims of an accident. However, a spokesman from the Portuguese navy told the Algarve Resident: “After we checked the boat, we came to the conclusion that there were no victims and that the wreck had happened several months ago.”

The original incident happened on July 13, 2010, following a thunderstorm in British waters. The vessel was abandoned after the crew sent an SOS to authorities.
