MASSEUSES HAVE been asked to wear a padlock on their pants by a local government in Indonesia’s East Java province, in a bid to curb prostitution.
Meuthia Hatta, the State Minister for Women’s Empowerment told the Jakarta Post: “It is not the right way to prevent promiscuity. It insults women as if they are the ones in the wrong.”
The article was illustrated in the newspaper with a photo of a masseuse wearing a padlock on the waist band of her trousers.
