A nature lover was so upset by the storm damage to the botanical garden of Coimbra University she donated a Giant Redwood tree (Sequoia sempervirens) from her personal private collection of trees for re-plantation.

A dozen ancient trees, including one of the species Cunninghamia anceolata, planted in the 18th century, had been destroyedin the tornado.

The sequoia was given by Maria Amélia Silva because she said she was so upset by the destruction of nature’s beauty.

The sequoia is from the evergreen cypress family and is known to grow as high as 379 feet.
