Carvoeiro Clube de Ténis’ over 45s ladies team won the national championships for their age group at a tournament in Lisbon last month.

Team member Mo Beilby told the Algarve Resident that the team expected the tournament to be tough.

“Our coach, Graeme Hulme, remarked on the way to Lisbon that last year’s win on home ground was tough, but definitely not as hard as it would be to win in Lisbon against the best teams and certainly some of the best players in this age group in the country,” she said.

On the first day of the three day event, the Carvoeiro women won against their local rivals from the Jim Stewart’s tennis Academy in Quinta do Lago.

On the second day, team members Valentina Green and Stella Rocha played two singles matches against the Clube Nacional de Ginástica. On the final day, the team beat Estoril and claimed the national title.
