A national protest against the imposition of electronic tolls on former free-for-users SCUT roads is taking place on March 1.
A meeting in Aveiro last Saturday was attended by eight commissions representing motorway users in Aveiro, Viseu, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Guarda, Vila Real, Castelo Branco and Santarém. The groups discussed a strategy for action on the day and are now inviting anti-tolls commissions in Lisbon and the Algarve to join them in the protest. Francisco Almeida, representing the A23/A24/A25 users’ commission, said: “Protesters, as always, will be taking to the streets and public spaces. Tolls are only beneficial to road concessionaires.”
