Mystery surrounds Albufeira ‘body in boat’

Mystery surrounds the baffling case of a dead man found floating in a rubber boat just six nautical miles south of Albufeira.
Discovered by fishermen who alerted the authorities early yesterday afternoon (March 13), the body appears to be that of a North African man, aged around 30.
There was no documentation in the boat and according to ports authority commander Santos Pereira the boat was not registered in Portugal.
This has led Correio da Manhã TV to speculate that the boat may have been being used for drug trafficking.
Speaking to CMTV journalists at Albufeira marina, Santos Pereira said the boat was not equipped for long journeys, but was loaded up with almost a dozen jerry cans full of fuel.
PJ police are now investigating as the man’s body is due to be autopsied in Portimão Hospital.
